Loyer, Jack D. Kalamazoo, Michigan Jack Duane Loyer, of Kalamazoo, passed away Friday, December 9, 2022, at Rose Arbor Hospice. He was 84 years old. Jack was born on June 16, 1938, to John and Helene (Bos) Loyer, in Holland, MI. He enjoyed his early life in Holland in a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. As a young man, Jack served in the U.S. Army. After his military service he attended and graduated from Ferris State College. He lived most of his adult life in Kalamazoo, with his wife and two children, and worked as an accountant in the paper industry. Jack enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, bicycling, and skiing. He was a member of the Timber Ridge Ski Patrol for many years. He was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Kalamazoo, where he had many friends and served on a variety of committees. Jack's love of the outdoors cannot be overstated. He enjoyed many long walks with his dog, Gus, and he could be found fishing on the Kalamazoo River up until the week before his final hospitalization. Jack is survived by his wife Janet (Petrick) Loyer; his son, Chad; his daughter, Erin; and his much-loved grandchildren: Ian and Maya. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Bradford, and her husband Richard Bradford of Boston, and their children: Rebecca, Jonathan, and Jessica. The Loyer family is grateful for the kindness of the many friends that were so generous with their time, assistance, and good wishes. The family thanks the staff at Rose Arbor Hospice and Borgess Hospital for the care and attention they provided Jack and the family. They also are very thankful for the staff and members of Congregational Church who supported them with spiritual and daily attention and care. A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Loaves and Fishes of Kalamazoo.
