Passed away at home Saturday, August 7. Herbert was born to the late Jay and Fern Salisbury in Cadillac Michigan on October 19,1930. He grew up on a farm in Cadillac and graduated from Tustin High School in 1949. He served his country as a medic in the Korean War. After his return, Herbert was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jane, on December 13, 1952. They settled in Vicksburg Michigan where they raised their 2 daughters, Debby, and Cathy. Herb worked for Unifab Corporation in Kalamazoo for 47 years. He enjoyed playing baseball, baking peanut butter cookies, gardening and taking care of flowers, bee keeping, going on cruises and train travel all across the United States. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed meeting with and talking with people whether they were a stranger, or a friend he always had a handshake, hug and a welcoming smile. Herbert was a devout Christian who loved serving God and others. He volunteered at the Kalamazoo Seventh-Day Adventist church and their Community Service Center for countless years. He donated over 15 gallons of blood through the American Red Cross and served with ADRA doing disaster relief after 2 major hurricanes. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Surviving Herbert is his wife, Jane; Daughter, Deborah (Daniel) Peshka; siblings, Richard (Patricia) Salisbury and Virginia (Keith) Salisbury; grandchildren, Amanda(Javier) Aguilera, Alisha (Travis) Mckown, Kelsey (Michael) Weber, and Karley (Bryan) Casey; great grandchildren, Lyanna Aguilera, Santiago Aguilera, Clara Aguilera, Grace Weber, Kaden Casey, Connor Casey, and Cora Casey; several beloved step brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in passing are his parents; brother, Mark (Betty) Salisbury; children Cathy (Raymond) Sears and Baby Boy Salisbury. A Celebration of Life will be held in Herbert's Honor at the Kalamazoo Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1601 Nichols Rd, Kalamazoo, MI 49006 on Sunday, August 15 at 11am with a private family graveside service at Fort Custer National Cemetery the following day. In lieu of flowers please direct any memorial contributions to the Seventh day Adventist Community Service Center of Kalamazoo or Strong Tower Radio.
