Obituary
SMEENK - Henry Smeenk, age 82, entered his heavenly home on January 6, 2012, where he now rejoices in the presence of his Lord and Savior and is reunited with his daughter, Rachel. He was born in The Netherlands and moved to the U.S. at age 19. Henry proudly served his new country in the Army during the Korean War. He met his loving wife, Irene, in Iowa and in 1959, they moved their family to Michigan. Grandville Printing Company was his place of employment, where he eventually became the President. He was an amazing example of integrity, faith, dedication and hard work to his family and friends. His great love for his Lord was seen in his willingness to serve in his church, Trinity CRC, and give his time working with CRWRC Disaster Relief. He also willing filled the role of President of both Kenowa Gideons and Grandville Rotary. Henry had a wonderful sense of humor and many good times were enjoyed at Gun Lake Shady Shores and at their winter home in Arizona. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a special grandfather and will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 60 years, Irene; his children, John and Leyla Gandiello, Rob and Nyla Velting, and Mike and Star Smeenk; his grandchildren, Laura (Lane) DeKorte, Tricia (Joel) Brusk, Rachel (Micah) Lettinga, Kendra Velting, Michelle (Dorian) Bickel, Rebecca Smeenk, and Matthew Smeenk; great-grandsons, Christian and Benjamin. He also leaves a large extended family and many friends. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, January 9th at Cook Funeral Home (West), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 10th at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, O-60 Port Sheldon Rd. with Pastor Gerry Koning officiating.
