Hazel E. Kean of Portage, MI.

Hazel passed away Wednesday evening September 20, 2023, in Mattawan, MI. She was born on July 10, 1936, in Chicago, IL, a daughter of Ernest Louis Reshman and Hazel Elizabeth Reshman (Gilman) and had been a lifelong area resident of Portage, MI. Hazel was united in marriage with Paul Perrin Kean II on October 20, 1956. Hazel was gifted with beauty inside and out. She was a genius who graduated from high school with a full scholarship for MSU to study chemistry. She worked at her husband's Paul side (Business Agent) with the Local 17 bricklayers and helped support her family working in Paw Paw, MI with bookkeeping. Hazel's passion was love for her family; she devoted herself to raising six children as her chosen career. She was an amazing cook, using her chemistry knowledge to create wonderful, healthy meals for her family. She was also an avid reader and studied for a degree in English; she devoured books that she constantly borrowed from the library, retaining all the information she learned. She was also an animal lover and was especially fond of horses and dogs. She also loved to play games like Cribbage and Uno. She will be remembered as being extremely generous to her family; she lovingly shared all her time, she shared her knowledge, she shared every aspect of her life with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Louis Reshman and Hazel Elizabeth Reshman; beloved husband Paul Perrin Kean, and her daughter Brenda Kay Darling, her brother Ernest Jerome Reshman, and son-in-law Richard Krocker III.

She is survived by five children, Marshall (Elfriede) Kean, Sherry Orbach, Kathy (Richard) Krocker, Paula McLemore and Jon Paul Kean; grandchildren, Eric Kean, Keren (Ariel) Hepner, Lauren (Joe) Vaughn, Misty (Kenny) Massey, Krystal Krocker Stier (Mike), Richard Krocker III, Joshua (Kimberly) McLemore, and Sean (Danielle) Kean; great grandchildren, Ayanna and Maya Kean, Collin, Ayden, Saxon, and Xavier McLemore, Mason Kean, Win and Arlo Vaughn, Ariel, Ella, Jonathan, and Sela Hepner, Celyna (Kyle) Cambizaca, Ciona Massey, and John Stier; great great grandchildren, Alaric and Scarlett Cambizaca; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends (especially Gene & Randy/Debbie).

Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services 3926 S 9th Street Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12 PM to 1 PM. A private graveside service will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lawton. Hazel's family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to Loaves and Fishes. Hazel would want to say that the whole family will be in her heart and prayers forever.
