Burdick, Harry Wm. MD 11/1/1930 - 2/14/2023 Kalamazoo, MI Husband for 67 years to Sandra Burdick, father of three married daughters, Grandpa Doctor to 10 grandchildren and their 7 spouses, and Grandpa Birdie to 10 great-grandchildren. He was known and loved by his large family for his generosity, special vacations, his unique sayings, and stories, and rousing card games in which the shared goal was to beat their competitive and boisterous grandpa. "Doc" served the Kalamazoo/Plainwell communities as an Orthopedic Surgeon, functioning as founder and senior partner of K-Valley Orthopedics for over 3 decades. During those 30+ years he consistently and gladly maintained, "If you love your job, you will never work a day in your life." His evident passions were family, friends, year-round fishing, woodworking, regularly beating his gathered grandchildren at a game of cards and serving alongside his beloved wife in Open Hearts Ministry. In that ministry and before all people he consistently maintained, "Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, without whom I would have lived a totally miserable life. But for eternity and from a wasted life He saved me. " In 1966 while engaged in his favorite pastime of fishing in Newfoundland, Canada, "Doc" placed his faith in Jesus Christ for the complete and eternal redemption of his soul. Following that event, "Doc" faithfully served his Savior through the established ministries of several local churches. At the time of his death, "Doc" was a member in good standing at Calvary Bible Church, Kalamazoo, MI. Born and raised in Berrien Springs, MI. Graduated from DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana. Medical School training at The University of Michigan. Transferred to Orthopedic training at Blodgett Memorial Hospital, Grand Rapids, MI. Called into the Air Force and served at Harmon Air Force Base, Newfoundland, Canada for 2.5 years. Resumed his residency training and then entered private practice in 1963, partnering with John L. Kihm. Served on various boards: Honey Creek Christian Home for Boys; Baptist Haiti Mission; Westwood Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Jeanette Burdick; sister, Barbara Gill; nephew Carl Gill. Harry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sandy; daughters, Beth Kuiper (John), Sue Comfort (Greg), Amy Anderson (Curt); grandchildren, Jeremy Kuiper (Lisa), Andrew Kuiper (Lexi), Austen Comfort (Erin), Parker Comfort (Catherine), Maddie Kupecky (Heath), Preston Comfort (Jo), Erik Anderson, Joel Anderson (Nora), Ryan Anderson, Seth Anderson (fianc Natily); great-grandchildren, Libby, Lane, and Lucy Kuiper, Sienna Kuiper, Sawyer, and Auggie Comfort; Owen, Graham, and Vivian Comfort, and Poppy Kupecky; and niece, Becky Castro.
