Obituary
Harriet grew up in Camden, Michigan. She graduated from Camden High School as Valedictorian. Harriet graduated from Michigan State University in which she was proud to wear her green for MSU football and basketball. Harriet married Nick Swanson on February 4, 1951. They lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan for 65 years. She was active to serve others with a friendly smile in her church, children school organizations and various community groups. Harriet enjoyed the friendships she made in various Bridge groups and tournaments. After raising three children, Harriet and Nick shared a life of outdoor adventures. They climbed Grand Teton Mountain twice. Their first major bike ride was from Nebraska City to Kalamazoo in 10 days. They had such a rewarding experience together they started bicycling through the Canadian Rockies, Northwest United State, Napa Valley and Colorado. Harriet continued to bicycle after Nick passed away. She enjoyed 56 Road Scholar Tours which she biked, hiked or cross country skied. She moved to Florida to enjoy year around outdoor activities in 2021. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Nick and son-in-law Timothy Crook. She is survived by her three children Mary Swanson(Bill Eichelberg) Cape Coral, Florida, Jim Swanson (Julie) Grand Rapids, Michigan and Carol Crook, Nebraska City, Nebraska. Harriet had 17 grandchildren, 11 great-children and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Harriet made it a goal in life to bring happiness and encouragement to someone every day. The vibrant, ambitious and friendly woman easily achieved her goal. A private family gathering will scatter Harriet's ashes in Grand Teton National Park.
