ANDERSON, Gwendolyn Kalamazoo, MI Evangelist Missionary Gwendolyn Vernell Anderson went home to be with the Lord on May 29, 2021. She was born to the union of Superintendent Eugene and Missionary Leola Belle Anderson on July 4 1941, in Ruleville, Mississippi, the eldest of fourteen children. Evangelist Missionary Anderson found God at an early age at St. James COGIC in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Pastored by Bishop B.S. Lyle. Missionary Gwendolyn Anderson's Family have been members of the Church of God in Christ since 1914, so it came as no surprise that she began singing gospel songs at the age of four in the state convocation. For many years Missionary Anderson sang at many church services and events throughout the Midwest and South. She raised her beautiful voice to God, both as a magnificent soloist and as leader of the Anderson Family singers, glorifying the name of Jesus at every opportunity. In 1956, Evangelist Missionary Anderson moved with her Family from Clarksdale, MS to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where the Anderson Family was initially under watch care at Tabernacle COGIC, pastored by Elder Moore. However they soon became members of Mason Temple COGIC pastored by the late Elder S.M. Johnson who had performed her parent's wedding ceremony in 1939. Several years later Evangelist Missionary Anderson became a member of True Worship COGIC, pastored by her Father, Superintendent Eugene Anderson. During this time she was appointed District Missionary of the Mt. Sinai District, a position in which she served until the passing of her Father in 1999. Some time after the passing of Superintendent Anderson, Evangelist Missionary Anderson became a member of City of Refuge COGIC, co-Pastored by her brothers Pastors Joseph, Leatrice and Joses Anderson, here in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she continued to faithfully and joyfully serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Evangelist Missionary Anderson attended Kalamazoo Public Schools and later graduated from Comstock High School. She attended Davenport University after graduation, where she received a Homer Stryker Scholarship for senior students. Evangelist Missionary Anderson served for many years as a District Missionary in Southwest Michigan Jurisdiction #4. She enjoyed working faithfully under the direction and guidance of the late Bishop Fred Lewis, current Prelate Bishop Aaron Isaiah Milton, and her Supervisor of Women, the Mother Mary Jane Walton, 3rd Assistant General Supervisor of the Churches of God in Christ. According to Mother Walton, "she never failed to answer a call."
