Gloria Slayton

Age 86, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023. Gloria was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on March 27, 1936. She was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, class of 1955. Gloria spent time working as a secretary at the Federal Center in Battle Creek and Western Michigan University, but ultimately chose to stay home and took pride in raising her children. She enjoyed traveling and camping and was a long-time member of Bethel Reformed Church. On September 11, 1955, she was united in marriage to Gilbert F. Slayton, who preceded her in death on May 18, 2022. Gloria was also preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Ethelyn (Bradley) Nelson; her son in-law, Doug Deaner and sister, Barbara Crail. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Deaner and Lisa Melville; son, Troy (Jennifer) Slayton; grandchildren, Justin, Jordan and Ainsley; great-grandchildren, Everett and Eleanor; sister in-law, Catherine (Gary) Sonneville and nieces, Shannon and Crystal. A committal service will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan on Wednesday March 15, 2023 at 10:30 AM (those planning to attend should arrive by 10:15 AM and meet at the funeral assembly area). A memorial service to celebrate Gloria's life will follow the committal service on Wednesday at Greenwood Reformed Church, 1815 Winton Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49001, beginning at 12:00 PM.
