Culp, Gloria P. 1/16/1951 - 8/18/2022 Richland, Michigan Gloria P. Culp, age 71, of Richland passed away peacefully on August 18, 2022. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 16, 1951, the daughter of Zephine (Simpson) Culp and Robert Culp and graduated from Loy Norrix High School and Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Gloria was a longtime member of the Lucinda Hinsdale Stone Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she had served as chaplain, board member, correspondence secretary, vice regent, regent and registrar. She was the final president of the Caledonian Society. An avid bagpiper, Gloria was also a member of the Kalamazoo Pipe band, serving as pipe major and manager, while teaching countless lessons to the new and aspiring bagpipers. She also served as the longtime secretary of the Kalamazoo Scottish Festival Association. Gloria was active in her children's lives as a soccer coach, Girl Scout leader and Little League volunteer. She was a gifted seamstress, bagpiper and enjoyed crafting. Gloria began working at the age of 16 at the Milwood Root Beer Stand, briefly wrote for the Hanford (California) Sentinel newspaper, owned and operated her own upholstery shop. She was also employed by Themal Transfer Ltd. (Racine, WI); and retired from Western Michigan University after working in the Registrar's Office. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, John Culp. She is survived by her son, Jake (Amy) Rohr and their children, Alyssa Rohr, Colbi Rohr, Reno Rohr, Riley Rohr and Carter Rohr, and also by her daughter, Betsy (Stan) Hoyt and their son, Ryan Hoyt. There will be a Celebration of Gloria's Life at the Richland Township offices 7401 N. 32nd St. on October 1st 2022 at 2 pm, refreshments will be served and stories shared. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel.
