Gertrude "Betty" Lewis

Gertrude "Betty" Lewis, 91, passed away on Saturday May 30, 2020 in Kalamazoo. She was born October 23, 1928, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Peter and Corah (Booden) Sopjes. Betty was a 1946 graduate of Kalamazoo Christian high School. Her love for music was passed down from her mother, and she passed this love to her children. She was a church organist for sixty-five years and a member of Third Christian Reformed Church of Kalamazoo, MI, and a former member of Hope Reformed Church of South Haven, MI. In 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Vern G. Lewis who survives. Also surviving are three children: Deborah (Barry) Klaassen, Patricia (Scot) Stromstra, all of Kalamazoo, and Jack (Naya) Lewis of Decatur, Georgia; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by a son, Steven Vern Lewis, three brothers, Fred, Robert, and Richard Sopjes, and two sisters, Edith DeBoer and Esther Molenaar. A private interment service was held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Services are entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S.
