Gertrude "Betty" (Barnett) Abbasse

ABBASSE - Gertrude "Betty" (Barnett) Abbasse, age 84, of Kentwood, died Saturday, October 16, 2010. Betty was preceded in death by her only son, Dave Abbasse, father and mother, Conoy and Eva Barnett, sister, Florence Brown and brothers, Earl, Walter and Dell Barnett. Surviving is her loving husband, Toffie; children, Becky (Pat) Emery, Debbie (Ron) VanZalen, Shelly (Gary) Abbring and Melissa (Brian) Bosak nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen Abbasse and her mother, Mrs. Ash, Harry and Selma Obermeyer, Bess Richardson, many nieces and nephews including those in California and Idaho. Also missing Betty are her long time friends, Mary (Juell) Soho and Sandie McKinney. Betty was married to the love of her life, Toffie, for 62 years. Her family were her biggest fans and comfort. Her laugh was contagious. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She loved to go back "home" to Kentucky and Middletown, OH where she grew up. She will be missed by her family who loved her more than anything in this world. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ofield Funeral Home chapel. Interment Fairplains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Michigan Lung Association. The family will meet with friends and relatives Monday 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Ofield Funeral Home
