George McGinnis

George R. McGinnis, age 87 of Kalamazoo, died on October 18, 2021. He was born April 21, 1934, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the son of Ernest and Bessie (Burris) McGinnis. George was a graduate of Adrian College and received his Master's Degree in Education from Western Michigan University. George served in the U.S. Army Medical Core stationed at the Valley Forge Army Hospital. He taught at Coloma High School, Galesburg-Augusta High School, Benton Harbor High School, and Ferris State University. George also coached at the High School and Collegiate level. His family includes his children: Rosberto (Terri) McGinnis, Conrad McGinnis, and Martin McGinnis; his 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; his sisters: Ernestine (George) Wysinger, Pearl Dixon, and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah McGinnis Lucas; his parents; his siblings: Leon, Ernest, Excell, Richard, Josephine, Bessie, Irene, Mattie, Joseph, Sam and Bertha. Friends may visit with his family on Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 1:00-3:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A private graveside with military honors will be held at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. Donations in memory of George may be made to the American Cancer Society.
