Scott, Gary L. Schoolcraft, Michigan Gary L. Scott passed away on May 26, 2022. He was born on May 21, 1941, to Nathan and Lena Scott, in Westfield, Nova Scotia, Canada. Gary and his family moved to Kalamazoo when he was 9 and he remained in the area until his death at his home in Schoolcraft. On February 18, 1966, he married the love of his life, Connie (Botticher) Scott. In his youth, Gary was an auto mechanic at several area service stations, where you would find him tinkering on his own cars after losing a clutch or transmission racing his '55 Buick or his '56 T-Bird at Martin Dragway. (shhh, there might have been street racing too) In 1969, Gary received his Private Pilot's License, which prompted his second love, restoring small airplanes. In 1974, a longtime dream of his came to fruition. He and Connie purchased property in Schoolcraft, where after many hours of hard work, he had his small grass strip airport. It was not unusual to have 10 or more airplanes dropping in on Saturday for coffee and a game of pool. In 1994, Gary retired from American Axle and GM after developing health issues. With the urging from his friends, he earned his Aviation A&P. If you could not find Gary in his hanger (or mowing), or flying, he was probably on the golf course. Gary played on several golf leagues, but the main league was at Gull Lake View, where he made many friends. Gary was notorious at accidentally losing a club or two in one of the ponds on the course, there might even be one in a tree somewhere. Gary was blessed to have had many really good friends: in aviation, golf, and neighbors. He will be sorely missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bette; and a brother, William. He leaves behind his wife, Connie; special nieces, Janet (Bill) Noakes and Amy (Matt Schick) Segerdahl; brothers-in-law, Dirk (Debbie) Botticher and Kurt Botticher; and special Canadian cousins Eric (Judy) Cole, Richard Cole, and Lorna Cole. Friends may visit with his family on Monday, June 6th, 2022, from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, with Mike Kemple from Missional Chaplains officiating.
