Evelyn Lorraine Gibson (Christian)

Evelyn passed away September 20, 2019 in Portage, MI. She was born March 12, 1929 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Harold & Tata (VandePol) Christian and had been a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. She graduated with the class of 1947 from Kalamazoo Central High School. She was a member of Lane Boulevard United Methodist Church and later Greenwood Reformed Church. Evelyn was employed by Lyman Lamps, Jud Knapper Clothing stores and the Mall Plaza Management Office. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, quilting, knitting and spending time at her South Haven cottage on Lake Michigan. On August 26, 1950 she was united in marriage to Clifford M. Gibson who preceded her in death on January 12, 1968. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Jane Christine Chaput and her sisters, Marnie Willoughby and Betty Van Dis. She is survived by 2 children, Stephen (Julie) Gibson of Stuart, FL and Jeffrey (Ginger) Gibson of Portage; 4 grandchildren Jenna Gibson (Morri Freeman) and Whitney Gibson all of Manhattan Beach, CA; Matthew (Kendra) Gibson, of Portage and Ryan (Katie) Gibson of Medina, OH; 6 great-grandchildren, Calder Freeman, Rowan & Davis Gibson, Collin, Keira & Brynn Gibson; a special cousin, Laurel Dahlman and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Brookdale Portage Memory Care staff and Ellie of SouthernCare Portage Hospice Services for their tender care of Evelyn. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South, 3941 S. Westnedge Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI.
