Elizabeth "Betty" Simonds

Simonds, Elizabeth "Betty" Portage Betty went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Rose Arbor Hospice. Betty was born in Kalamazoo on July 29, 1930 to Matthew and Elizabeth (Kalinowski) Mauer. She retired from Simonds Foot & Ankle Clinics, where she was a podiatric assistant and bookkeeper. Betty was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and a volunteer at Ascension Borgess Hospital Gift Shop. She played tennis well into her 80's and was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed playing bridge, euchre, and other neighborhood activities at Oakland Hills. Betty was preceded in death by her brothers, Ed & Matt Mauer. She is survived by her children Nancy (Terry) Haas, Dr. James (Mary) Simonds, David Simonds, John (Anita) Simonds, and Mary (Kent) Matthews; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one due in July; her siblings Michael (Julie) Mauer, Barbara Mauer, Richard (Sharon) Mauer; Special Sister-in-law Barbara Redmond; Nancy Mauer and Jean Mauer; several nieces and nephews. A Visitation for family and friends will be Monday, February 20, 2023 from 5-7pm at Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 10am at St. Monica Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Monica Catholic Church or Hackett Catholic Prep. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
