(Rockford) Eleanor Ray Herring, age 72, of Rockford, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008 at her home after a lingering illness. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Lloyd Herring, as well as her children, Susan Howell of Shelbyville, Kentucky, Richard Howell (Betsy) of Rockford, and Karen Goering (Gene) of Archbold, Ohio. She had five grandchildren who she adored. She also leaves two brothers, Paul Shelton (Janice) of Minnesota and Jim Shelton (Carol) of Idaho. Eleanor was a native of Oakdale, Tennessee, and despite living in Michigan most of her life, she always loved the grace and charm of the South. She was a member of the Diet Kitchen Guild of Butterworth Hospital and attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Eleanor had an appreciative spirit, a kind nature, and a sense of wonder about the world. Her family was very dear to her, and she was a constant and loyal friend to many. Visitation will be at Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and a memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or to Hospice of Michigan.
