Edward Keto

Edward Keto, 97, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side, on October 2, 2021. He was born Edward Kvetko March 22, 1924, in Beacon NY to the late John and Sophia (Schutz) Kvetko. Edward was the youngest of seven siblings all of whom have passed along with their spouses: Liz, Mary, Ann, Joe, Kay, John. The Kvetko family unofficially changed their name to KETO when Edward was young. Ed valued his independence and as a child of the depression worked many jobs at a young age, he enrolled himself in school, converted to Catholicism, and was a proficient hunter, trapper, and fisherman. Ed, as he liked to be called, enlisted directly out of high school in 1942 to the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Nebraska and served until war's end as an Airplane Mechanic. He used the GI bill to attend Cornell University in Ithaca, where he earned a BS in Science. Ed met his first wife Frances Bozich during college, and they married in 1948. Ed worked as an airline steward and hunting game farm manager, until a chance conversation with the president of Cornell University landed him the job, he considered the best of all his life, head game manager on an isolated private estate, Gardiners Island NY. Many fond memories and stories came from this time. During this time his wife became ill, and they moved back to Dutchess county NY to be close to his family, until Frances's death in 1955. Ed then secured a job with the young IBM corporation in Poughkeepsie NY where he met his second wife Frances A. Barone of Patchogue NY. Ed and Fran were married in 1959 and had two sons Stephan and Daniel X. Ed and Fran moved to Kalamazoo Michigan in 2001 to be closer to their two sons and 2 young grandsons. Frances passed in 2013, and Ed moved to StoryPoint Community in Portage Michigan in 2015. He was a devout Catholic, attending Mass daily, assisting in the readings, and joining the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered his time, for decades to serve the mentally ill. Ed loved people, talking, dancing, gardening, playing games, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed his final years with gusto. Before his death Ed expressed to his son: he had lived a good long life, had no regrets and was not afraid to die. He died with great wisdom, age, and grace. Ed is survived by his 2 sons and spouses: Stephan and Carol Keto, Dan and Cara (Lieurance) Keto, grandsons Graham and Louise (Taylor) Keto and Douglas Keto. sister -in-laws Jean Musto and Josephine Barone of Poughkeepsie NY, many Musto and Barone relatives live throughout the US. His closest living Kvetko relative is his nephew Gene Larkin (95) of Beacon NY. Ed and Gene were close in age and grew up as kids in Beacon along with extended family. Other Keto grand nieces and nephews of sister Liz and brother Joe continue to live in NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 Monday morning, October 11, 2021, in St. Mary Catholic Church, 939 Charlotte Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49048 with Fr. Jose Haro, presiding. The family will receive guests at church beginning at 9:00. Private committal services with military honors will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
