Obituary
Dr. Julius Franks Jr., age 86, passed away into the loving arms of the Lord on November 26, 2008. A service of praise and thanksgiving will be held on December 3, 2008, 11 a.m. at Renaissance Church of God In Christ, 1001 33rd Street SE. Friends may meet the family at Gillespie Memorial Chapel, 1865 Eastern Ave. SE on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. Julius was born September 5, 1922, in Macon, Georgia, later moved to Hamtramck and resided in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His influence and successes came in both the private and public sectors. He was Trustee Emeritus, Western Michigan University, a member of the Michigan Dental Association, Grand Rapids Urban League, American Red Cross, Grand Rapids Rotary, a developer of Auburn Hills Land Development and a host of other affiliations. Julius leaves to cherish his memories his children, Cheryl Franks, Bobby Franks, Beverly (George) Grant, Fredrick Franks; sister, Edith Adkins; grandchildren, Tasha, Trevor, Patrice and Petera Franks; niece and nephews, William Dunbar Jr., Kedrick (Lynette) Adkins, Janice Dunbar, Michael (Sandy) Adkins and children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Sr. and Nellie Mae Franks, son, Darryl Franks and sister, Leaster Dunbar.
