Dr. David Victor (Dave) Gauvin, 75, of Kalamazoo Michigan, passed away on May 17, 2026 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Dave was born in Detroit, Michigan to Victor and Mary (Schoemer) Gauvin on March 5,1951. He graduated from Southgate High School in 1969. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychopharmacology from Wayne State University. His love of science led him to work as a Professor at the University of Oklahoma, a Drug Science Officer in the Drug and Chemical Evaluation Section of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and finally to the role of Senior Director, Neurobehavioral Sciences at MPI/Charles River Labs where he retired after 20 years. He was the recipient of an extensive number of honors and awards throughout his vast career.

Dave was in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1975 and served aboard the USS Enterprise as a nuclear engineer. He lived a life of academia and science. He loved to teach and educate others. He loved Christmas and playing the role of Santa Claus for his many nieces, nephews, and colleagues' children. Dave was the guy you wanted to sit next to at the meeting to hear what he was going to mumble under his breath. He was also the guy in the meeting that said what he thought loud enough for an auditorium to hear. If you wanted a good laugh, a great story, to hear some colorful language, or a VERY honest opinion, Dave was the guy to see. Nothing made Dave happier than his planning and attending of his sibling vacations that he shared with his sisters. Dave's love, kindness, and generosity were limitless for those he cared about. He will be missed by colleagues across multiple industries, many, many friends, and his loving family.

Dave is survived by his sister, Mary Beth (Maitland) Stewart of Southgate, Michigan, his sister Bettilynn (Dave) Vernier of Mooresville, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Gauvin, father, Victor Gauvin, brother, Michael Gauvin, and sisters Therese Ann (Mark) Campau, and Noelle Marie Gauvin.

Funeral service will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Home, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo MI, 49009 on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 10:30am. Visitation will be at the same location on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
