Dr. Albertus "Bud" Elve

ELVE - Dr. Albertus H. "Bud" Elve, age 82, of Montague, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Cleo; sons, Dan (Lorna) Elve of Montague, Mark (Anne) Elve of Ada, Steven Elve of Grand Rapids, Paul (Tina) Elve of Grand Haven, David (Tricia) Elve of Atlanta, GA; step daughters, Denise (Jolan) Jackson of Grandville, Deborah (Steven) Lanham of Alpharetta, GA, Dawn Jones of Wyoming; brother, Anthony Elve of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Megan and Shamus, Rachael, Isabel and Maxwell, Gabrielle and Sophie; step grandchildren, Nickolas and Joy, Daniel, Shane, Blake, Trent, Lisa and Larry, Angelina, Tony and five step great grandchildren. Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth. He earned master's degrees from the University of Michigan, University of New Hampshire and Stanford University before going on to earn a Doctorate degree in science. Bud taught at Grand Rapids Community College for 28 years and served 26 years as the Chairman of the Physical Sciences Department and earned professor emeritus status. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and over 30 years in the reserves retiring with the rank of Commander. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Thornapple Evangelical Covenant Church, 6595 Cascade Road SE. The family will receive friends at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Chapel on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Albertus H.
