Douglas Walker

Walker, Douglas Douglas Walker, age 95, of Richland passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022. Doug was born to George and Anne Walker in Liverpool, England. He moved to Canada with his mother, and a year later, they settled in Buffalo, New York. In 1957, Doug's career in finance led him to various cities and states, but he eventually ended up moving to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1960. After 20 years at Omni Credit Union, he retired in 1990 from the CEO position. Doug was raised without a father in his life, and it was his goal to be a strong influence on his children and to be present for them. He attended countless school and sporting events for his children and grandchildren, gave them advice on life, money and doing the right thing and was always a present figure at family gatherings. One of Doug's most memorable moments was when his five children surprised him in Florida for his 80th birthday. He was amazed that all of his children would take time off work, leave spouses and arrange childcare to fly to Florida to spend five days together as a family. The trip included shuffleboard, cards, attending dinner shows, lots of laughing and reminiscing about childhood memories. Doug remained active throughout life by playing bridge at Richland Library and euchre at Richland Community Center, working out at Borgess Fitness Center, walking, traveling and playing golf. Wherever Doug went, he instantly made a friend due to his outgoing and friendly personality. Doug is survived by Sue Walker, his children, Vicky Walker, David (Ellie) Walker, Marty (Anne) Walker, Bonnie (Mike) Mastromatteo and Julie (Rick) Boyle; grandchildren, John, Jennifer, Britni ad Broc Buiwitt, Brandon Walker, Dominik, Luke and Alia Mastromatteo, Kara Hostetler, Caleb Boyle and great-grandson, Colton Brockman. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth and sister-in-law, Dorothy Walker. A celebration of life will be held for Doug at Hunters Run Clubhouse, 6911 Hunters Stream, Kalamazoo, MI 49048 on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel is assisting Doug's family.
