Doris Mable Mumford, 94 of Mattawan, passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2024. She was born on September 10, 1930, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Roy M. and Anita M. (Gage) Taft.

Doris attended Mattawan High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Clyde Mumford. They graduated in 1948 and shortly after on July 30, were united in marriage. Their love was exemplary and enduring for 64 wonderful years until Clyde's passing in 2012.

Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She raised her children so that she could spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She encouraged supporting the arts and would take the family to see performances at Miller Auditorium.

Doris and Clyde enjoyed many trips across the country. Memorable vacations were spent in Hawaii, driving to Alaska, and visiting New England and Canada. Her family fondly remembers summer trips to Doris and Clyde's cabin in Walhalla, MI on Long Lake. Evenings were spent on the boat before returning to enjoy time around a campfire. Doris also loved visiting Traverse City and Boardman River where she made many memories during her childhood.

Doris was a devout Christian and kept a close relationship with her faith. She firmly believed that her Redeemer lives and she shall one day stand before Him. She was a longtime member of Oakland Drive Christian Church where she attended with her daughter.

Doris' most cherished possession was her family. She enjoyed researching her genealogy and cataloguing and extensive family ancestry. Clyde maintained a lush garden and she took pride in canning the fruits of his labor so the family could always enjoy homegrown food. She loved Christmas and would take her family Christmas shopping in Chicago and walking through Bronson Park to see the lights and holiday fixtures.

Doris leaves behind her children Peggy and Clyde Mumford; grandchildren Kyle (Tamara) Mumford and Nichole (Chris) Oliver; great-grandchildren Paityn and Caidence Beam, Haidyn, Tailor and Claiton Mumford, and Ashlyn and Jacob Oliver; sisters-in-law Doris Taft and Jean Mumford; and several nieces and nephews. She will be reunited with her parents Roy and Anita Taft, husband Clyde, and brother Sterling Taft.
