Age 89, passed away at home on Sunday, June 16, 2019, with her family at her side. Dorothy was born in Paw Paw, MI, on July 12, 1929, the daughter of the late Arloe and Theresa Markle. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her warm smile and gentle nature made her a joy to know. Her greatest joy in life was her family and extended family. She enjoyed playing card games with her sisters, family dinners on holidays and rejoicing in all the milestones for those she loved. Dorothy was a hard worker and was employed as a bookkeeper for Halperts Department Store in downtown Kalamazoo. She had fond memories of spending her lunch break at the Gilmore Department Store. She also worked at Lake Street Lumber Company and Wagner Plumbing. Dorothy leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived and she will be missed by all who loved her. On December 12, 1952, she married the love of her life Joseph Merica who preceded her in passing in 2006. She was also preceded in passing by three sisters, Shirley Markle, Donna Ransbottom and Arlene Merica; a brother, Arthur Markle Jr.; son-in-law, Rick Dennehy. She is survived by three children, Theresa Dennehy, Michael (Robin) Merica and Brian Merica; four grandchildren, Matthew Dennehy, Kristen Merica, Jessica (Brian) Roeper and Ashley (Brock) Eakins; three great-grandchildren, Emily Merica, Abigail and Brooklyn Roeper; five sisters, Betty (Jim) Hamilton, Joyce VanAtta, Carole (Dick) Baird; June (Steve) Anson, Linda (Lynn) Wolf; two brothers, Dick (Elida) Markle and Don (Helen) Markle; two brothers-in-law; Ted Ransbottom and Wendel Merica; many nieces, nephews and extended family. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 22, 2019, beginning at 10:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 9:00 AM, one hour prior to the service. Interment at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
