Doris passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Borgess Hospital, following heart surgery. She was born in Chicago, IL on July 31, 1932, the daughter of Edgard C. (E.C.) and Johanna Larsen Christensen. She and her husband, Don, were Charter Members of Portage United Church of Christ, where she served on many boards and committees, and was the church Board Secretary for many years. She was also church organist for thirty years, retiring as organist emerita. She was a member of the Guild of Organists and past president of the local chapter. She retired as an executive secretary for the Upjohn Company. Doris married Donald O. Beebe, CPA, on September 6, 1952, who survives. Also surviving are their children, David H. (Janet M.) Beebe, of Bowie, MD.; Linda M. Beebe of Battle Creek, and Sarah E. (Michael) Taylor of Parchment; seven grandchildren, Ruth I. and Deanna C. Beebe of Bowie, MD, Kathryn E. and Amy M. Beebe of Battle Creek, and Christopher M. Ewing and fiancée Melissa Blair of Big Rapids, Jason M. and Steven M. Taylor of Parchment, her sister Joyce (George) Wedel of Scotts, and several nieces and nephews,. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother, Geneva Christensen, a brother Paul C., and a sister Doris. A memorial service in Doris' memory will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 7 o'clock in the evening at the Portage United Church of Christ, 2731 W. Milham, west of Oakland Drive, with her pastors, Scott Oberle and Lisa Kothe officiating. After the service, the family will meet friends in the Fellowship Hall for refreshments. Memorial contributions in Doris' memory may be made to the Portage UCC Music Department, American Heart Association , or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America; envelopes available at the service and the funeral home.
