Donald Monroe Shull of Portage, MI, died June 22, 2022, at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo MI at the age of 88 where he left us now to be with his Savior and Lord. He was born on August 2, 1933, in Brooklyn NY to Leonard and Frances (Lehman) Shull. Don graduated from Ridgefield Park High School. He graduated from Hope College, where he met his wife, Irma Shull (Derks). He also received his master's degree from Michigan State University. Don is survived by his children including William (Carol) Shull, Thomas (Renee) Shull, and Joellyn Shull; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, his sister Shirley Schmidt and several nieces and nephews. Don was a physics teacher and school counselor at Portage Public Schools from 1958 until he last retired in 2010. Don also served as a Naval Air Reserve Officer for 21 years retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. His hobbies included woodworking, bowling, golfing, gardening, cruising, and most importantly serving. Don was active at Lakeland Reformed Church as a Deacon, Administration Council, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and Family Night helper. Don was an avid volunteer with Ministry with Community for 30 years, South County Community Services, Kids Hope, and Pet therapy at Borgess Hospital. He was a member of the Greenwood Reformed church for 40 years. Now his spark has died out on this earth, but his spirit has flared up again as he joins his wife and others in heaven. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022, from 1-2pm, when services will begin at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage MI 49002. Private committal services with military honors will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Don to Ministry with Community.
