onald A Remington, age 100, formerly of Allegan,passed away February 27 at his home in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born March 9, 1924, in Bloomingdale, Michigan, to Otto and Grace Remington, the third of four boys.

At age 17, he enlisted in the Marines during WWII, and served his country with honor and bravery. He fought on Guam and Iwo Jima, and was awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and America's second highest honor, the Navy Cross.

While still recovering from his injuries, he met Miss Gobles, Helen Norman. They married in 1948 and began a 77 year love affair. He was an excellent athlete, playing baseball for Checker Cab, and was dubbed "The Mighty Mite" by the Kalamazoo Gazette. In his later years he enjoyed golfing at Ot-Well-Egan Country Club as well as bass and trout fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife Helen, son Mark (Sheryl), daughter Robin, grandchildren Corey (Chris), Michelle (AJ), Dan (Jennifer), and four great-grandchildren.

He was a proud Marine and his life exemplified The Greatest Generation.
