Obituary
Age 96, of Grand Rapids, passed away on May 12, 2026. Dena was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on August 10, 1929, the daughter of the late Henry and Fern (VanHouten) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe DeVisser; second husband, Christian Beeke; stepdaughter-in-law, Jane Beeke; granddaughter, Rachael Timmer; great-granddaughter, Hannah TenElshof; brothers and sisters: Harriet Dee, William Johnson, Bert and Cora Johnson, Ruth and Ken Phillips and John and Lois Johnson; and brothers-in-law: Adrian and Betty DeVisser, Henry and Martha DeVisser, Abraham and Catherine DeVisser and John and Alberta DeVisser.
Dena is survived by her children: Sharon and Dan Engelsma, Sandy and Dave Timmer, and Shirley and Ken Lugthart; stepchildren: Mary and Joe Reno, Chris and Karen Beeke, and Tom Beeke. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Cara and Tim TenElshof, Marcie and Dan Rose, Jessica and Steven Corson, Craig and Riana Timmer, Dana Timmer, Melinda Timmer, David A. Timmer, William and Brittany Timmer, Aaliyah Timmer, Mandie and Eric Wierenga, Lisa and Bob Roelofs, Sheila and Tim Bazen, Carissa and Jake VanDyke, and Kendra and Charlie Engelsma; step-grandchildren: Steph & Dave Dorner, Karrie & Dave Roelofs, Katie & Ben Schipper, Jason and Jamie Beeke, and Lydia Beeke; 52 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and brother, Henry & Margaret Johnson.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation, 108 Pratt Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Interment will follow at Portage Central Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009 and on Saturday at the church from 10:15 to 10:45 AM.
