HERMANN, Dean A. CDR, USN Ret., Deacon Plainwell, MI Dean went to be with Jesus on July 19, 2022. He was born in the spring of 1944 to Dean E. and Laura Hermann in the Upper Peninsula of MI as their second son. His siblings are Bill Ursula, Greg, Chris and Jim. He grew up in St. Ignace and Newberry. He joined the Navy the fall after high school and retired 30 years, 3 weeks and 3 days later. In civilian terms, he always said "I did everything from empty bed pans to run the place." He married Vicki in the spring of 1965. They had 2 son, Tony and Matt (Karen). Dean and Vicki have 4 grandchildren, Zach, Ollie, Caleb and Brielle. He became a permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church in the spring of 1993 in Chicago and served in 5 different dioceses. His life was one of helping others including military personnel, health care workers, patients, and those who came to him for help. He believed in tending to people's immediate needs, but also helping them to address the cause of their problems. Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with Dean's family starting at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, until the time of the mass of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M., with Bishop Paul Bradley officiating. Burial will take place at 2:30 P.M, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Dean may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan or St. Margaret Catholic Church. Messages of condolence may be posted at WinkelFuneralHome.com.
