David Russell Whitfield, age 40 of Grand Rapids, died surrounded by his family at Rose Arbor Hospice Home on December 15, 2021. He was born on April 28, 1981, in Danbury, Connecticut, the middle son of Richard and Patricia (Pingree) Whitfield. The family moved to Michigan when Dave was 3 years old. He was a 1999 graduate of Mattawan High School, received his bachelor's degree from Olivet College, and his Law Degree from Michigan State University College of Law. Dave truly enjoyed spending time fly fishing and dreamed of moving to Montana. He was a member of Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited. His greatest joy was his daughter Chloe. He loved to do anything outdoors with her, including camping, hiking, and biking. They share a love for Legos, Star Wars, and all things "Hamilton". His family includes his daughter, Chloe Whitfield; his parents, Richard "Rick" and Patricia "Pat" Whitfield; his brothers and sister: Richard Whitfield, Kathleen (Tom) Hemingway, and Christopher (Jennifer) Whitfield; several nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family and friends.
