Obituary
David Allen Weessies went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Rose Arbor. Dave was born August 5, 1947 in Allegan, the son of the late Henry and Margaret (Reitenga) Weessies. Dave graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High in 1965. He started his first career at Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (27 years) where he worked his way up the ranks retiring as Assistant Chief of Police. He served in the Military Police Corps for nearly 3 years, including 1 year stationed in S. Korea during the Vietnam War. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Western Michigan University (WMU) and Master in Public Administration from WMU. He then had a second career (23 years) in banking security initially for First of America, then National City and finally PNC Bank. He was a longtime member of the Grace Christian Reformed Church where he served as elder and deacon and member of church council over the years. On November 7, 1969 he was united in marriage to his loving wife the late Sharon (Onderlinde) Weessies. Surviving are his children Jonathan and Lauren Weessies, brothers-in-law Larry (Amy) Onderlinde, Scott (Jan) Onderlinde, and Mark Onderlinde, all of Kalamazoo. Dave will be remembered for his kindness, faith and genuine love of people. Everyone became a friend and he was a mentor to many. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 2, at Langeland Family Funeral Home 3926 S. 9th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Per his request no memorial service will be held at this time. Private interment with military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Grace Christian Reformed Church, Kalamazoo Christian School Association, or a worthy cause of your choice.
