David P. Taylor, age 78, of Edwardsburg, MI David Taylor, a husband, father, grandfather, local long-time public servant, philanthropist and community leader, passed away peacefully in his home in Edwardsburg on Saturday morning, April 1, 2017, at the age of 78 years. David was a local attorney at the end of his career after retiring from Clark Equipment Company as Director of Taxation. He gave countless hours to a multitude of civic and philanthropic organizations. David was generous and diligent. He spent his life caring and working to solve problems for others, even right up until his passing. As a public servant David served on the Edwardsburg Public School Board, the Cass County Commission Board, the Cass County Transportation Board and the Woodlands Behavioral Health Care Board as Chairman. David was politically active, contributing his time and energy to local political races and even ran for Congress himself in 1994. After his retirement, he appeared in several plays for the Beckwith Theatre Company in Dowagiac. David was an "U-per" born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the small town of Pickford to Genevieve (Patrick) Taylor and Frank Harold Taylor. David studied at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he obtained four degrees within six years - a Bachelor degree, a Master in Business Administration, a Juris Doctor (law) degree and a C.P.A. certification. His studies did not stop in Ann Arbor. David was an intellectual and constant student, studying everything from various religions to political theory. David also loved to sail and was an excellent helmsman. He participated in many Mackinaw races and captained many sailing vacations to the Caribbean and Adriatic with his wife Mary Ann and their family and friends. David is survived by his wife Mary Ann Crete of 42 years, and his 7 children: David Taylor, Jr., Andreae Waanders (Joe), Hal Taylor (Kim), Alec Taylor, John Taylor (Meredith), Ursula Taylor (Matthew) and Grant Taylor and his eight grandchildren. David is also survived by his brother Frank Taylor (Barbara) and his sister Jane Guissinger (John). David is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Tracey Taylor. Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US-12, Edwardsburg on Tuesday, April 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday April 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodlands Mental Healthcare Foundation, 960 M-60 East, in Cassopolis, Michigan 49031. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg, MI.
