Scheffers, David 9/13/1944 - 12/20/2020 Kalamazoo, Michigan To be absent from the body and present with the Lord! David Scheffers passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 following a brief illness. He was born in Kalamazoo Michigan on September 13, 1944, the son of Arthur and Iris (Courtney) Scheffers and delivered by his sister, Ruth (Age 16). After graduating from Kalamazoo Christian High School, David went to City Barber Styling School in Detroit, Michigan; while finishing barbering school, he met and fell in love with a young lady named Carol and wed on June 18, 1965, most recently celebrating 55 years of marriage. Dave enlisted in the United States Military and was deployed to South Vietnam as a Chaplain's Assistant. After being honorably discharged from the service, he was self-employed and retired from Scheffers Hair Design after 53 years of devoted service to his community. He dearly loved the ministry at Calvary Bible Church, being a member of the church for many years. He and Carol and the family created many wonderful memories together and he will be dearly missed. David was preceded in death by his parents, in laws, brother Arthur Scheffers, sister, Marijane and her husband, Roger Buining, as well as his mother and father-in-law. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Carol, children Tammy (Jeff) Reas. Tim (Kerrie) Scheffers, Jeff (Kelli) Scheffers, twelve beloved grandchildren: Ashley (Reza Khosh), Katie, Josh, Jill (Reas), Mason, Courtney (Scheffers), Drew, Alex, Dawit, Jared, Kylo and great grandchildren, Danny and Lizzie, as well as his brother, Jacob (June) Scheffers, sister Ruth Jepkema, in-laws, Sue (Dave) Branon, Mary (Rob) Miller, Ann (Dan) VanderMolen, Laurie (Dan) Foster and Ralph Tuttle, Jr., as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Visitation will take place at 12 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church, one hour prior to the service Tuesday, December 29, 2020. The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bret Laird officiating, along with Pastor Larry Messer of Battle Creek Bible Church. In accordance with David's wishes, he will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to Calvary Bible Church Missions Fund or the Kalamazoo Christian School Association, c/o the funeral home.
