David Louis Melges, 62, of Battle Creek, died January 3, 2006 at University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor.

He was born October 21, 1943 in Battle Creek, the son of Dr. Frederick and Elizabeth (Towne) Melges.

Dave graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1961 and was Captain of the football team.

He received his Bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in 1965 and also played on the football team.

He received his Investment Counselor's Degree from the New York Institute of Finance in 1965 and completed the Securities Industry Institute at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business.

Dave was a Senior Vice- President and served as Branch Manager of Hilliard Lyons in Battle Creek, Coldwater and Hillsdale. Formerly he was the Senior Vice-President and Director of Branches and Sales for the First of Michigan Corporation. Dave was formerly an instructor of finance at Kellogg Community College.

Dave served as a board member of several community organizations including Battle Creek Health System Finance Committee, Battle Creek Community Foundation's Grant Committee, Memorial Park Cemetery Finance Committee and Kellogg Community College Foundation where he also served as Chairman of the Board.

He was also a member of Kiwanis Club, Northwestern's "N" Club, Knife & Fork Club and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

He was a Major Sponsor and past Calhoun County Chairman of Ducks Unlimited and was involved in farming and active in several hunting and fishing clubs.

Dave married Deborah S. Cleaver on February 14, 1976 in Battle Creek. She survives.

Also surviving are sons, Jon (Sandra) Melges and David A. "Duffy" Melges, both of Battle Creek; daughter, Julia (Christopher) Brenner of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Frederick T. Melges, Hunter Brooke Melges, Nicholas M. Jablonski, Emily E. Jablonski; and sister, Joan Pregenzer Green of Gull Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. Frederick T. "Rusty" Melges in 1988.

Friends may call from 5 :00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Shaw Funeral Home.

Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, The Rev. Joy E. Rogers, officiating.

Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may go to the Kellogg Community College Foundation or St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
