Fletcher, David Kalamazoo, Michigan David R. Fletcher passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021. Son of Roscoe P. and Ruth (Keniston), born on March 22, 1942, grew up on the family farm in West Plymouth, New Hampshire. David graduated from Plymouth Public Schools and went to Plymouth State College, where he studied theatre and graduated in 1965. He also received the Plymouth Players Award. David was the Technical Director for the Lincoln (NH) Opera House from 1964-1968, while also making time to be the Tech Assistant at the Kalamazoo Civic Players from 1966-1968. He then went on to become the TD at the Ogunquit Maine Playhouse from 1969-1974. David worked at the Cleveland Playhouse from 1971-1976. He did a one-year stint at the American Stage Festival in Milford, NH, in 1975 and then moved on to the Gilford Playhouse in 1977 and 1978. In addition to these appointments, David also worked at the Greenville SC Little Theatre, Trinity Square Rep Company in Providence, RI, and Syracuse Stage. In 1978, he returned to Kalamazoo to become the Technical Director at the Kalamazoo Civic Players, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 2002. David loved auctions, estate sales, and flea markets, and refurbishing furniture. These passions served him well for finding unique props and set pieces for the hundreds of productions he worked on in his lifetime. Within his lifetime of theatre work, he touched the lives of thousands of people and will be fondly remembered by his theatre colleagues for his quick wit and sometimes funny "New Hampshire-isms." In his final years, he was lovingly cared for by Davide Tankersley, friend, and caretaker. David is survived by his sister, Susan Fletcher of Plymouth, NH; his aunt, Dorothy K. Kushious, of Sharon, Mass.; and many cousins. He is forever indebted to Professor Roi M. White and Richard W. Gould. Services will be held in Plymouth, New Hampshire at the convenience of his family at Mayhew Funeral Home. A celebration of life will take place in Kalamazoo and is also yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre endowment fund held at the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, 402 East Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49007-3888 or online at connect.kalfound.org/givenow.
