Daniel L. Grinage

Daniel Grinage passed away after a brief illness at University Hospital in Ann Arbor on Monday, December 11, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joanne (Peterson) Grinage; his siblings: Lynn Grinage, Roger Grinage, Kim (Karla) Grinage and Kathy (Grinage) Hartmann, in-laws: Connie (Peterson) White and Al White and Robert & Nancy Peterson and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Mark (Clarence) and Wilma Grinage and brother, Gary Grinage.

Dan graduated from Loy Norrix High School in 1966, KVCC and later WMU. He served in Vietnam where he was wounded working as a medic in the Navy attached to the U.S. Marines. He received the Purple Heart. After the service, he married Joanne Peterson on March 6, 1971 and finished his education before being employed as a mail carrier with the Post Office for 38 years.

Dan was a cowboy at heart and owned horses and dogs most of his adult life. He and Joanne remodeled a number of farm houses, farmed, raised cattle, sheep and tried their hands at pheasants and raising rabbits, all while growing feed for their animals; Dan also hunted, fished, camped, downhill skied and kayaked. While they had no children of their own, they very much enjoyed the company of their nieces and nephews and friend's children.

Dan will be missed by many. Graveside services will take place on December 22. 2023 at 2:30 at the Fort Custer Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
