Crystal Urban

Urban, Crystal M. Urban, age 95, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in Holland. She was born in Grand Rapids on September 6, 1911 and lived there with her family for 90 years before moving to Cadillac in 2000 to live with her granddaughter Michele (Jim) Bernier, until her recent illness when her granddaughter Tina (Dave) Immink oversaw her care in Holland. Crystal was a gentle and happy soul who was a 40-year cancer survivor. In her retirement years Crystal was a caregiver to several children who treasured her loving way and maintained contact with her into their adult lives. She always took pleasure in fishing, though she had no interest in eating fish, and during her time in Cadillac she greatly enjoyed the family golden retrievers Hercules and Mercury. She was preceded in death by her daughter Gwen Dorman Ball. In addition to her granddaughters Michele and Tina, she is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Gravelin of Comstock Park and her son John (Barbara) Urban of Monroe, NC; and by her other grandchildren, Melanie Falk of Grand Rapids, Larry Gravelin of White Cloud, Dennis Gravelin of Comstock Park, Doug (Janet) Gravelin of Austin, TX., Jacob Urban of the U. S. Navy- Iceland and Rachel Urban of Monroe, NC. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, as well as many friends who knew her in Grand Rapids or came to know her during her time in Cadillac.
