Cornelius (Case) Karsten, 93, of Zeeland, died Sunday at Heritage Health Care Center. Case was born and raised in Zeeland and became one of the city's best promoters. At what point Case's sense of community took root is uncertain. What we do know is that over the years he poured his enthusiasm and civic pride into projects for the Zeeland Chamber of Commerce, Zeeland Community Hospital, Zeeland Lions Club, Zeeland Historical Museum, Zeeland Community Chest (United Way), Zeeland Civic Chorus, Zeeland Christian Schools, American Red Cross, and many more. He was a lifelong member of 1st Christian Reformed Church and his faith was a testimony to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, in 2005. He is survived by his children, Ken and Sher Karsten of Grand Rapids, Jim and Nancy Karsten of Holland, Wayne and Marj Dennis of Pullman, and Don and Sara Karsten of Kentwood; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation is at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street in Zeeland on Wednesday, June 27, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The service is scheduled for Thursday, 3:00 p.m. at 1st Christian Reformed Church, 15 S. Church Street, Zeeland. Memorials may be made to Zeeland Christian Schools or First Christian Reformed Church in Zeeland. An online registry is available at www.yntemafh.com. Case was a blessing to his wife of almost 65 years, his family who loved him, and to the community he so eagerly served. Surely Zeeland has lost one of its greatest fans.
