Cornelius (Case) Wal-ter DeRuiter of Holland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 26, 2013. At the time of his death, he was a patient at The Inn of Freedom Village, where he received wonder-ful care and comfort from all of the staff. Case was born in Giessendam, the Netherlands, on Novem-ber 11, 1924. After World War II, he immigrated to the U.S. by boat with his fiancee, Aalje Anna (Alice) Van der Sluijs and arrived in the U.S. on July 12, 1950. Case and Alice were married on September 22, 1950. Case worked as a furniture finisher for Hol-land Furniture Compa-ny and the Worden Com-pany for over 30 years. At the time of his death, Case was a faithful member of Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church, and prior to that Maple Ave-nue Christian Reformed Church. For his churches, Case served as Elder, Dea-con, Sunday School Teach-er, Cadet Leader and in many other capacities. Case was preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Wilhelmina DeRuit-er of the Netherlands; his brother, Cornelis (Cor) DeRuiter of the Nether-lands; and his son, Paul DeRuiter. Surviving are his wife, Alice, of 63 years; and children, John DeRuiter of Muskegon, Jack DeRuit-er and his wife, Pamela of Alexander City, AL, Wil-liam G. DeRuiter and his wife, Sharon of Kalama-zoo, Elizabeth A. DeRu-iter of Spanish Fort, AL, and Mark DeRuiter and his wife, Cathy of Eagan, MN. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Alex-ander and Taylor Deruit-er, Casaundra Green, Jen-nifer Branson and Dustin DeRuiter, Matthew DeRu-iter, and Arie and Elissa VandeWaa; great-grand-children, Jackson and Wil-liam Green; Case’s sisters, Tonnie DeRuiter, Jaco-ba DeRuiter, Riek van Houwelingen, Wil Baard-man and her husband, Gert, all of the Nether-lands, and Jannie Tromp and her husband, Kees of South Africa; and in-laws, Aartje van der Veken, Bets van der Sluijs, Jan van der Sluijs and his wife, Jo, and Co van der Sluijs and his wife, Lien, all of the Netherlands. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, at Central Avenue Chris-tian Reformed Church, 239 Central Ave., Holland. Officiating will be Rever-ends James Scholten and Chad Steenwyk. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 30, at Lange-land- Sterenberg Funer-al Home, 315 East 16th Street, Holland. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Char-ity Fund of Central Ave-nue Christian Reformed Church.
