Meulendyk, Cheri 7/8/1949 - 1/29/2021 Alexandria Virginia Meulendyk, Cheri Lynn, of Alexandria VA, formerly of Kalamazoo age 71, was taken home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 29, 2021. Cheri passed away peacefully at home of natural causes. Cheri was born on July 8, 1949 to John and Dorothy (Dekker) Meulendyk in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She graduated from the Kalamazoo Christian Schools and earned her bachelor's degree from Calvin College and master's from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Cheri spent her long career teaching and counseling developmentally disabled children at a number of leading institutions and schools across the country. Cheri enjoyed gardening, reading and observing nature and she was a true patriot. She volunteered at numerous charitable people focused outreach organizations throughout her lifetime. She is preceded in death by her father, John Meulendyk and brother, Craig Meulendyk. She is survived by her mother Dorothy Meulendyk, the love of her life Doug Pruss, her sister Pam (Tex) Biertuempfel and brother Mark (Linda) Meulendyk. Nieces - Elizabeth (Darren) Chapel and Angela (Eric) Raderstorf, nephews - John Peter (Holly) Biertuempfel, Chris Biertuempfel and Chad Campbell. For those who wish, memorial contributions to "Carpenter's Shelter" in Alexandria VA for men, women and children who are temporarily homeless is lovingly appreciated.
