Obituary
Caryl Ann Yzenbaard Hoberg of Nashua passed away on August 31, 2026 at the age of 80.
She was born on March 24, 1946 to her late parents, John and Sinnie Yzenbaard, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was a loving sister to her late brother, Jim Yzenbarrd and late sister, Ruth Reed. She was the loving wife and partner of her husband, Tim, for 55 years.
She was a devoted and loving mother to her daughter, Emily. She very happily took on the role of mother-in-law to Steven and doting and caring grandmother to Charlotte and Chloe. She was a cherished sister-in-law to Molly and Greg Cribbett. She took great pride in her nieces and nephews including Adam Cribbet, Mark Cribbett, and Gretchen Arthur.
She was always there to ask questions, give advice, and help in any way she could. She was a friend, confidante, sister, aunt, surrogate aunt to so many.
Caryl was a graduate of Hope College and the University of Michigan School of Law. She joined the Cincinnati law firm of Taft Stettinius & Hollister in 1970. After four years of law practice, Caryl found her true calling, a love of teaching. She joined the faculty at Salmon P. Chase College of Law and was a Professor of Law there for 40 years, teaching wills, trusts and property law.
She authored or contributed to numerous books and received the Outstanding Teaching Award many times. She taught day and night classes and her students included plumbers, engineers and priests, and she enjoyed interacting with them all.
One of her thrills was being out of town and hearing someone call across a swimming pool or an airport lobby "Professor Yzenbaard." Caryl was active with the National Conference of Bar Examiners, serving on the Multistate Bar Exam Real Property Drafting Committee for 33 years and as Chair of that Committee for 27 years. In addition to teaching, she enjoyed time with her cats, traveling to over 100 countries over the years, and spending time with her family and friends.
