Passed away peacefully at her home on November 1, 2021. Carolyn was born in Hartford City, IN on June 28, 1935 to Gerald & Geraldine (Cronin) Coats. Carolyn and her family lived in Hartford City, IN, Ypsilanti, MI, Portage, MI, Littleton, NH and Crosset, AR. She and her husband later retired to Winter Haven, FL. Carolyn was raised in Hartford City, IN, graduated from Hartford City High School and attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN. In 1955 she met the love of her life and married on April 12, 1956. She mothered 5 children, worked in medical records and administration for several years and spent countless hours knitting caps and blankets for newborns in her community. Thomas Sullivan, her loving husband of 54 years, preceded her in death in 2010. Carolyn is survived by her children: Mary Ann (Kurt) Cox of Rapid City, MI, Jerry Sullivan of Harrisburg, PA, Jim (Kathy) Sullivan of Portage, Peg Chase of Portage and Patrick (Jennifer) of Palo Alto, CA; 10 grandchildren: Marley Cox, Michael and Alec Sullivan, Brian and Kate Sullivan, Adam and Tyler Chase and Abigail, Madeline and Finnian Sullivan. Other surviving family members include Katie Sullivan, David Chase, nephews Steve Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan, Brian Sullivan and niece Kim Gronendahl. Carolyn was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church of Portage and also St. Matthew Catholic Church of Winter Haven, FL. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, November 6 from 10-11 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave in Portage, MI 49002. Funeral services will succeed at 11 AM and will be followed by interment at noon at Portage South Cemetery, 10401 S. Westnedge Ave, Portage, MI. Reception will follow burial at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Westside Chapel, at 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
