Obituary
Carolyn Teresa Stufflebeam, 89, of Kalamazoo, Michigan passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025.
Carolyn was born June 2, 1936, in Oak Park, Illinois to Frank and Mary (Verdek) Joseph. She attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. On December 27, 1958, she married Daniel Leroy Stufflebeam in Chicago. She was a teacher for three years and then became a homemaker, raising three children.
Carolyn spent much of her life volunteering and serving her community. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she ran the food pantry as a volunteer for many decades. Her activities at the church also focused on raising money and collecting school supplies to support local children. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and making scarfs and mittens. While her children were young, she spent much of her time at the ice rink helping run the Kalamazoo Figure Skating Club and spending many cold mornings as a dedicated hockey mom.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Daniel, and is survived by her son Kevin Daniel of Kalamazoo, MI, her daughter Tracey Lynn Smith and husband Roger of Grand Rapids, MI, and son Joseph Leroy and wife Dawn of El Paso, TX; her brother Frank Joseph of Kalamazoo, MI; and grandchildren Kenton Stufflebeam of Nashville, TN, Kalyn Stufflebeam of Kalamazoo, MI, Marlee Stufflebeam of Allegan, MI, Sara and Andy Smith of Grand Rapids, MI, Hunter Stufflebeam of Baltimore, MD, and Ethan Stufflebeam of Tempe, AZ; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Joseph.
Friends may visit with the family at Langland Family Funeral Home, 3926 South 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI on Friday, August 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service for Carolyn will be at 11 AM, August 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 504 South Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI. Pastor Ken Johnson will officiate the service and lunch will be provided after the service. Carolyn will be laid to rest at a private family burial at the Alamo Cemetery in Alamo Township, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Foundation 504 S Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
