HASSEL God is Good Caroline Garrett VanHassel, age 73, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and great grandmother, went home to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully with her family at her side on August 4, 2008 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anson and Thomine Coulon and her first husband of 39 years, Jack W. Garrett in 1994. Caroline is survived by her kind and loving second husband of eight years, Herbert VanHassel (for whom she felt twice blessed); her four children with families, David (Loril) Garrett with two grandchildren, Branden and Emily Garrett, Paul (Jeanne) Garrett with two grandchildren, Phillip and Jennifer Garrett, Elizabeth (Nate) Evans with three grandchildren, Joshua, Grace, and Daniel Evans, Michael (Carolyn) Garrett with two grandchildren, Jack and Francisco Garrett; her three step children, Diana (Luke) Bourne, Mary Hollis and John (Patty) VanHassel along with five step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Caroline is also survived by one brother, Rev. Eric (Jeanne) Coulon and three nephews, Jonathan (Michelle) Coulon, Andrew (Jessica) Coulon and Philip Coulon. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 7th at 11 a.m. at Calvary Church on East Beltline in Grand Rapids with family member Rev. Dr. Art Gay of Chicago officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6th and at 10 a.m. at Calvary Church preceding the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Committee at Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference in Muskegon, Michigan (4759 Lake Harbor Rd. 49441).
