Carl L. McEwen was born September 30, 1930, in Three Rivers, Michigan, to the late James H. and Inez (Court) McEwen.

Carl grew up on the east side of Kalamazoo and enjoyed his longtime friendships with the Eastside guys. He spoke of his escapades as a young man frequently with fond memories.

At seventeen, Carl joined the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was extremely proud of his time in the service as a prison guard at the Spandau prison.

On October 24, 1953, he was united in marriage to Arlene Elizabeth Vargo. Carl and Arlene were true partners in love and life. They enjoyed being with family and friends for a barbecue or a game of cards whenever possible.

Carl enjoyed playing golf with his friends and later taking his grandsons out on the golf course and encouraging them to play.

Carl is survived by his daughter: Lisa (Pat) Callan; two grandsons: Joseph (Holly) Cook and Matthew Callan (Haley Holman); 2 Great granddaughters: Emilia Jane and Meadow Elizabeth Cook. Also surviving are Carl's youngest brother: Jack (Linda) McEwen, and a brother -in- law: Paul Allen.

Carl lost his beautiful wife: Arlene, in 2018. He also had a beloved son: James Lee who preceded him in death; as well as Carl's other siblings: sister: Betty and brother in-law: Jack Short and brother: Barbara Allen.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services on 622 S. Burdick Street in Kalamazoo, MI.

A private Family burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery on Tuesday 26, 2023.
