Age 94, of Richland passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, October 27, 2021. Carl was born in Ross Township, Michigan on October 25, 1927 the youngest son of Charles M. and Edna L. (Allison) Osterling and graduated from Augusta High School with the Class of 1946 and continued his education at Argubright Business College. Carl faithfully served his country as a CPL in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving a Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Distinguished Unit Citation and the Combat Infantry Badge. He worked for Panelyte of Kalamazoo, Dreamers Furniture, City Trans. Currier, and the Sherman Lake YMCA. Carl married the former Gloria Fern Cutler at the Augusta United Methodist Church on October 11, 1952; she survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Ellen (Philip) VanHammen of Traverse City, Maria (David) Schmit of Indiana, and Elaine (John) Severson of North Muskegon; a son, Brian (Cheryl) Osterling of Augusta; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Carl was sadly preceded in death by his son, Bradley Osterling in 1980; an infant daughter; his parents; a sister, Lucille and three brothers, Wayne, Bill and Charles. Carl was an active member of the Gull Lake United Methodist Church and a life member of the Galesburg & Richland/Gull Lake Area Lions Clubs. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards & Farkle, and spending time with his family. The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Monday, November 1, 2021 at the Gull Lake United Methodist Church 8640 Gull Road, Richland, MI 49083 where a memorial service to celebrate Carl's life will be held at noon. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gull Lake United Methodist Church and/or the Richland/Gull Lake Area Lions Club.
