Beverly Cheney-Celebration of Life Beverly was born on May 12, 1948 in Kalamazoo, Michigan where she lived until 1972. Her parents were Clarence and Hilda Wykstra; she was the first of five children. She attended Brucker Elementary, Northeastern Jr. High and Monsignor O'Brien High School. She graduated from Kalamazoo College where she earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree (Biology). After graduation she began a career as a manager at Bill Knapp's Restaurants in Vandalia, Ohio and later as a Contracting Officer with the US Government in Walled Lake Michigan, Germany and Houston Texas. She felt fortunate to have followed her government career overseas from 1989 to 2005, living in Wrzburg, Frankfurt, Worms, and Mannheim. She was always interested in traveling the world and her career made sure she saw plenty of it. She was a gracious hostess, having her family and friends visit all the places she lived and showing them around the sites. She had a passion for learning languages, reading, trying new recipes and wine tastings. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her two favorite holidays and she loved hosting her family at her homes at those times of year. Beverly was married to Frederick on June 9, 1989 in Kalamazoo. Her special friends were Martie Hicks, of El Centro, CA., Nicole Marshall and Barbara Hamilton of Kingwood TX. She was intelligent, witty, caring, worldly and very patient. She was a positive force in her family and she took care of everyone whenever they were sick or down with an illness. After retirement, she was deeply involved with her family in Michigan and Texas. It was with great sadness she passed away on her mother's birthday after struggling with metastatic breast cancer for almost three years. She kept thinking she would beat it and kept a positive attitude throughout her illness. She is survived by her husband Frederick of 29 years, sisters Leslie Rawlings of Grand Rapids MI and Sydney Hamilton of Kingwood TX, and her brother Patrick Wykstra, his wife Sherry, a niece Amanda Wilholt and grandniece Madison and grandnephew Connor, all of Kalamazoo MI. She is also survived by two stepsons, Joel and Scott Cheney of Berkley and Ferndale MI. Her family and friends loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place and she will be interred in Kalamazoo next Spring. Darst Funeral Home
