Locker, Betty Jean Kalamazoo Betty J. Locker, 93, passed away on January 28, 2023, at Kairos. According to her grandson Eric, "The world lost a funny, warm-hearted woman that day. She was a bit kind, a bit badass, and way ahead of her time." She was born June 24, 1929, in International Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Bridget (McManus) and Jack Peckels. Betty married young and always said that her children were the best things in her life. She worked a variety of factory jobs and taught her children a strong work ethic, including that you do not quit any job unless you have the next one. Her goal was to support herself and her family. In addition to taking care of her family, Betty enjoyed bowling during her younger years and hunting in Michigan and Wyoming. She and her husband Bruce were active grandparents, sharing their passion for Wyoming with their grandchildren for many years. Betty was the first daughter born in a family of 6 children, all of whom preceded her in death: Richard Peckels, Donald (Diane) Peckels, Jack (Bobbie) Peckels, Marian (Jim) Stuut, and Marilyn (Bernie) Germain, who was also her best friend. Also, preceding her in death were her husband, Bruce Locker; daughter, Diana; and beloved son, Frank (Joy). Betty leaves behind a large family who will miss her wit and quiet inspiration. Surviving are her daughters Bridgett (John) Kane and Catherine (the late Butch) Cummins, 11 grandkids, 18 great-grandkids and 7 great-great-grandkids. Special thanks to niece Sheri and her husband Bill Goodman; grandchildren Liz Ufkes, Brent Ufkes and Emily Paige; and neighbor Leroy Beach for the support and care that enabled Betty to stay at her home until her final hours. A celebration of Betty's life was held on Wednesday, February 1st, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 622 S. Burdick Street in Kalamazoo at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty's name to Kairos Hospice or Disabled American Veterans (DAV). To view Betty's personalized webpage please visit https://www.langelands.com
