Betty Hiemstra

Betty Hiemstra, age 86 of Kalamazoo, died on August 6, 2026. She was born on October 21, 1939, in the Netherlands, the daughter of Riemke (Dijkstra) and John Toering. Betty married Peter Hiemstra in 1959. She worked at First of America Bank for a few years. However, Betty's life work was her family and working on the family farm. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed bowling on leagues, playing Bridge with her friends and volunteering at the library. Betty previously belonged to the German American Club and the Welch Association.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Peter Hiemstra and her sister Diane (Ben) Kuiper.

She is survived by her children: Susanne (Jon) Emmons, Richard (Vicky) Hiemstra and Steven Hiemstra; her grandchildren: Chris, Justin, John and Eric; her 9 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Mark (Shirley) Toering and Marian (Roger) Cook and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with her family on Monday, August 17th, from 1:30 PM-2:00 PM at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South in the Chapel, with a committal service held at 2:00 PM in the chapel.
