Betty Dustin

Dustin, Betty J. Kalamazoo, MI Betty June Dustin, 104, passed away Tuesday morning, August 30, 2022, in Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born June 16, 1918, in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of the late Hiram and Jennie (Meyler) Paul and had been a lifelong area resident. Betty attended the one-room Grand Prairie School and graduated from the 8th grade. She then moved on to Western State Normal High School at Western Michigan University and graduated in 1936. Upon graduation Betty joined the Michigan Bell Telephone Company where she was a telephone operator before and during World War II. She quit work in 1945 through 1956 to raise her children and then returned to work as administrative secretary to the manager of Bell Telephone operations in Kalamazoo. She held that position until her retirement in 1979. She also attended KVCC during this time. She also served as secretary of the Pioneers at Michigan Bell. Betty joined the Westwood United Methodist Church in 1957 and has remained a faithful member ever since and has served in many capacities into her late nineties. She loved and served her family and friends and was the center of holiday and family celebrations. She also loved to crochet, sew, travel, fish, play badminton and table tennis, and was an avid bowler, golfer, and table game player. Her caring and kindness for others is already missed. On March 3, 1939, Betty married Dudley M. Dustin who preceded her in death on July 5, 1994. She is survived by her children, Deanna Cole, and Dan (Carol) Dustin; grandson, Dustin (Sara Cultra-Cole) Cole; and great-grandsons Parker Cole and Miles Cole. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Friday morning, September 9, 2022, at Westwood United Methodist Church, 538 Nichols Road, with Pastor Sean Kidd officiating. Betty's family will receive guests at the church beginning at 10:00 and again following the service. Graveside services will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery at 1:00.
