Bernita M. Spillane, 81 of Battle Creek, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009. She was born September 21, 1927 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Shirlie M. and Maude (Seaman) Parrott. A 1944 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, she also was a graduate of Kellogg Community College earning her L.P.N. Degree. Bernita worked for many years at Leila Hospital in the pediatrics department retiring in 1978. She then began providing day care service from home for the next 20 years. Bernita was an active lifelong member of Convis Union United Methodist Church, was a member of TOPS for many years and enjoyed camping. On August 3, 1947 she was married to Howard E. Spillane who preceded her in death on January 7, 2001. She was also preceded by her parents; two brothers: Charles and Raymond Parrott and sister: Velma Shilts. Surviving is her son: Michael L. (Pam) Spillane of Battle Creek; daughter: Patricia I. (Dyke) Eutsey of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Ronald Leffler of Marshall and Ronald Shilts of Charlotte; sister-in-law: Kathryn Askew of Battle Creek; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Sueann K. Hagan of Convis Union United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
